For the first time in 2013, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reversed their position on Lyme disease and admitted that the number of Lyme disease sufferers could be over 300,000 people. This is 10 times more than are reported each year, and reverses what the CDC has claimed for many years now that Lyme disease cannot last longer than the recommended 2 to 4 weeks of antibiotics.
So why this sudden reversal in reporting about Lyme disease?
Jessica Bernstein of Truth-out.org wrote an excellent article on this story representing the Lyme disease community, blowing the whistle on corruption in the CDC regarding Lyme disease. She points out that the announcement by the CDC that Lyme disease is much greater than previously reported coincides with the release of a new Baxter Lyme vaccine.
Dr. Stanley A. Plotkin wrote an editorial for the N.Y. Times endorsing the Lyme disease vaccine, and then the editorial board of the N.Y. Times followed that up with their own editorial, encouraging doctors to petition the CDC to release the vaccine. The vaccine had already been in the market previously, but was a failure because it did not have the support of physicians.
The N.Y. Times presented Dr. Stanley A. Plotkin as “a professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania,” but according to Truth-out.org what they failed to mention was that he is only:
“Emeritus professor” at the University of Pennsylvania. His primary position is working as an executive adviser at the pharmaceutical firm Sanofi Pasteur, which is the largest company in the world devoted entirely to human vaccines. In addition, he’s a consultant to most of the major vaccine manufacturers.
Truth-out.org goes on to report:
Lyme disease is one of the more recent examples of how conflicts of interest have impacted approval of vaccines as well as diagnostic tests. Through documents obtained as a result of a Freedom of Information Act request, Stanford journalist Kris Newby uncovered news that a shadow group consisting of CDC employees and other researchers have significant commercial interests in Lyme disease tests and vaccines. A large percentage of government grants were given to these group members. Newby found that this group has been setting Lyme disease policy and a national research agenda without public oversight or transparency. Part of the group’s stated mission has been to run a covert “disinformation war” and a “socio-political offensive” to discredit patients, physicians and journalists who questioned the group’s research and motives.

Sadly, even now, most physicians who do treat chronic Lyme disease do so with long-term antibiotic treatment, which can have other disastrous side effects. And soon, most of the population may be injected with Lyme disease through approved mass-vaccination, reaping huge profits for the pharmaceutical companies.
