pertussis-vaccine-failure

Health Impact News Editor Comments

ABC News out of Australia is reporting that whooping cough cases among infants are increasing, and that the vaccine seems to be loosing its effectiveness. The National Centre for Immunisation and Research of Vaccine Preventable Diseases in Australia has found whooping cough cases are increasing in very young children. Senior research fellow Dr Helen Quinn says:

The a-cellular vaccine we use now wanes. The immunity you get from them wanes a lot quicker from what we expected…Now that we’ve got this vaccine that doesn’t last quite as long, perhaps some of those increasing cases that we have seen, particularly among three-year-olds, are due to this waning of the vaccine.

Pertussis Vaccine is Ineffective

The pertussis vaccine for whooping cough is a failure. This fact is not even denied by mainstream medicine. Yet, the pro-pharma media continues to blame the tiny percentage of unvaccinated children as the cause of whooping cough outbreaks, when in fact the data clearly shows the outbreaks are occurring mainly among the vaccinated population.

Here are past articles from Health Impact News documenting the research and epidemiological evidence that the current pertussis vaccines are no longer effective:

Pertussis Vaccine Failure is not Just Modern but Historical: Vaccine has Never Been Effective

If you read the data in the links above, you will know more about the current whooping cough vaccine than probably 99% of the physicians in the United States still recommending the pertussis vaccine as a supposed means of preventing whooping cough.

For those of you who still look to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as the authority on vaccines, here is their current statement (as of December 1, 2014):

A New England Journal of Medicine letter was published on February 7, 2013, noting the first appearance in the United States of pertussis strains that are missing pertactin. More recently a paper evaluating the prevalence of these pertactin-deficient strains in the United States was published in Clinical Vaccine Immunology.

Pertactin is one of several components of all pertussis vaccines. It is a protein that helps pertussis bacteria attach to the lining of the airways. There is a new study that found the likelihood of having reported pertussis caused by pertactin-deficient pertussis compared to pertactin-producing pertussis is greater in vaccinated persons. However, current evidence suggests pertussis vaccines continue to prevent disease caused by both pertactin-positive and pertactin-negative pertussis strains since other components of the vaccines provide protection.

CDC is currently conducting studies in the United States to determine whether pertactin deficiency is one of the factors contributing to the increase in the number of reported pertussis cases. CDC will continue to closely monitor the situation and evaluate all available scientific evidence before drawing any conclusions. (Source: FDA.gov.)

The CDC  admits the data shows “pertussis is greater in vaccinated persons.” Yet they continue to recommend the vaccines because “current evidence suggests pertussis vaccines continue to prevent disease caused by both pertactin-positive and pertactin-negative pertussis strains since other components of the vaccines provide protection.”

What other “current evidence”? What “other components of the vaccines provide protection”? There were no links or studies cited.

Pertussis Vaccine is not Offered Alone, Only in Profitable Combo Vaccines

Could the real reason why the failed pertussis vaccine is not removed from the U.S. Childhood Vaccination Schedule be because it is not offered as a single dose vaccine, but only as a part of highly profitable combo vaccines that are administered to billions of children around the world?

Here is a list of the companies that currently benefit from the whooping cough vaccine that is part of a combination vaccine, the most common being with diphtheria and tetanus (DTP):

No pertussis-only vaccine is available. The pertussis vaccine is available as:

  • DTaP (Diphtheria Toxoid-Tetanus Toxoid-acellular Pertussis vaccine)
  • DTaP in combination with Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine
  • DTaP in combination with hepatitis B and inactivated polio vaccines
  • DTaP in combination with Hib, hepatitis B and inactivated polio vaccines
  • Tdap (Tetanus Toxoid reduced-Diphtheria-acellular Pertussis vaccine)

Vaccines containing the whole cell pertussis component (DTP) are no longer recommended for use in the United States and are not listed here, although they are used in many countries. Vaccines containing lower amounts of diphtheria toxoid—abbreviated with a small d—are utilized in persons 7 years of age or older.
