Former UCLA Medical Center Pediatrician: Let Parents Choose on Measles Vaccine

A pediatrician in Southern California, who is a faculty member at UCLA Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, was recently interviewed by CBS News regarding the recent measles outbreaks. He admitted that more than half his patients have either refused the measles vaccine (only available in a three-vaccine combo as MMR, measles, mumps, rubella), or delayed getting it. He stated that he did not believe that measles posed any risk for healthy children.

A patient of mine sent me copy of a letter he received from a local hospital system. The patient also included a note to me stating, “Dr. B, I don’t think this letter is from you. I thought you would like to see what they are sending out in your name.” Folks, I assure you, this letter was not from me. WISN in Wisconsin is reporting that 26-year-old Katherine McQuestion has died from flu complications, after she received the flu shot. Katherine was reportedly a newlywed, and was required to receive the flu shot as part of her employment. She was a radiology technician and worked at St. Catherine's Medical Center in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin according to WISN. McQuestion's mother said her daughter was healthy, beautiful and smart. She married in September, and her funeral was held on Tuesday.
